Bikky Sunazawa Exhibition in Sapporo: The Wind
This exhibition will commemorate the 30th anniversary of the passing of Bikky Sunazawa (1931 – 1989), a leading woodcraftsman from Hokkaido. Bikky, who dedicated himself to using wood as artistic material, challenged himself to depict kiki—spirits that reside in trees. Among his works that feature kiki, those in his Wind series express powerful spirits and an uplifting feeling, introducing viewers to his sense of awe before nature. This exhibition will showcase his sculptures centering on the Wind series and also look back on his creative activities from various angles based on the Sapporo Art Museum’s own research and investigations.
